Nova Scotia - Come to life (Posted: 31 January 2010)
I just found this video which is a mashup pop video style of various vignettes used for commercials by the campaign. The commercials were shown a lot in NS which I do wonder is the best use of money but I suppose we know about the campaign and can spread the word.

Anyway - its a great video and showcases some of the wonderful things about Nova Scotia - perhaps I should just remove the "Why Nova Scotia" page on this site and post the video instead.

Recently having had over two feet of snow its a nice reminder of summer.

Oh in case you wondered, yes everyone in NS smiles all the time, have nice teeth, are all fairly beautiful, and successful and the sun always shines - come to life!

Podcamp (Posted: 26 January 2010)
Last Sunday, I went down to Podcamp Halifax. It was my first "unconference" and I liked the format. I think it could have been even more particpatory with some "structured conversations" rather than the more traditional powerpoint present then answer questions which happened in all the sessions I went to. Was a great event though and hope to get down to Podcamp 2011.

Lotte joins family (Posted: 14 November 2009)
And then there were 6. 2 x humans, 2 x cats and 2 x dogs. Plus all the chickens and the duck who live outside of course.

On 20th October, we picked up Lotte and brought her home to join the family. What  a joy and frustration she is. Certainly no late mornings with a puppy in the house.

We were going to wait for spring before we got a puppy but the opportunity for Lotte arose and her father is owned by a work colleague.

She is also beautiful.

Surprise Arrival (Posted: 24 September 2009)
New baby chickens

What a great surprise when I came home from work today. One of our hens disappeared a couple of weeks ago. We feared it may have been taken by wild animals but we found no evidence (we have only lost one in a year and then there was a big pile of feathers left).

Well the crafty devil was brooding eggs and despite us searching we had not been able to locate her. We let the chickens completely free range - and this is one of the downsides - but I think its worth it.

When the eggs hatched, then proud mum decided to bring them back home and show them off - I was amazed to see them outside the hen house. 11 little fluffy chicks. She was being very motherly, chasing off the other hens and warming them under her breast and wings. Our first hatching we scooped them up, brought them inside and put them under a temperature controlled heat lamp - with digital thermometer for good measure. The last two hatchings we have left to nature - and so far nature has done a great job. We just have a bit of a surplus of chicks now. Time to look for new homes I think.

Want a .com? (Posted: 22 February 2008)
In fact a .com, .net, .org, .info or a .co.uk or an .org.uk or any other domain name? If you do, I can register that for you.

I can also host your website if you want.

From many years experience of running housinguk.org, kirkstall.org.uk and many other sites I know a fair bit about registering, transferring, maintaining and hosting websites.

Found our house in a book (Posted: 3 October 2007)
Yesterday I went to the local library to look for books on Nova Scotian house styles. I wanted to do some research on what period or style our house would be described as. In the local history section I found a book on the village we live in and managed to find a very old photograph of our house.

I was very excited to see the picture as it showed outbuildings which have now been demolished. It also showed the school which was run in our barn/garage/workshop was larger and more extensive than we thought. There is a list of the 20 pupils at the school at one point - so larger than we had thought.

Another photograph of our house is published in a Women's Institute book of the village published in the 1990's. It is great to find our house has an interesting history and great to see where other buildings have stood. Now we need to get Time Team in for some archeology I think.

I am not an Australian politician (Posted: 27 July 2007)
Australian MP, Matthew GuyJust in case you came here looking for a different Matthew Guy, I would like to point out that I am not an Australian Liberal MLC although we do share the same name.

If you wish to find out about that Matthew Guy, click here or on his very brief Wikipedia entry.

Matthew and I have exchanged emails both before he was elected and since and he seems a very nice chap (which is good to know for a namesake).

The picture on the right is of Matthew Guy, MLC of Victoria , Australia.
