Blogs and Podcasts

Diamond Geezer - Recommended
A wonderful blog about London which is written by a friend from the UK. I remember being told to check out this new blog he was writing. Now after a few years he is a blogging superstar and his observations about UK city life are most entertaining. Great photos too.
Frugal and Greenish - Recommended
Great tips to save money and lower your carbon footprint from our good friend Carolyn from the south shore of Nova Scotia.
Our New Life Adventure - Recommended
Flora and Larry moved from Toronto to Bear River. I love Flora's blog about her new life in Nova Scotia. Not only is the blog a good read, Flora uses loads of photos and videos which really help to give a full picture of her great new life. Flora is also a talented artist and its great when she shows off some of her artworks on the blog.
downshiftme.com
In very late 2005 when we were first planning our life change and move to Canada we started recording podcasts ( a new thing then) about what we were doing and feeling about the move. Intended for friends firstly, we have met lots of great people through doing this. Now and then a new one still appears.

News Websites

BBC News
The wonderful BBC one of my most consulted websites.
Nova News Now
Website of our local newspaper.
The Chronicle Herald
Find out what is happening in Nova Scotia. The Halifax based newspaper will also predict changes in the weekly petrol/gasoline price.
The Globe and Mail
Find out Canadian news, world news and also read some interesting features.

Organisations I support

Clean Annapolis River Project
Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP) is  an organisation undertaking vital environmental work in and around the Annapolis River.
GPI Atlantic
An interesting organisation promoting a "Gross Progress Index" as a better measure of prosperity than GDP. GPI doesn't just measure economic growth - as they say - war is good for the GDP but not actually very good for the people of the country.
Lab Rescue Nova Scotia
An organisation which undertakes lots of fine work - and also where we adopted Dylan from.

Websites I like

Huh Corp
Probably the world's smartest consultants. Recently upgraded to include web 2.0 technology. These guys are smart - and they show it.
novascotia.com
Find out about things to do and places to go. You can order a great free guidebook too. Come visit Nova Scotia - you know you want to.
Western Nova Traffic Cams
Don't bother looking for traffic jams and congestion on our traffic cams - but useful for checking the road conditions - especially in the snow. Use these a lot in the winter and a very good service.
